The Boy With The Heart-Shaped Balloon

For me, as a mother, it is important to teach the value of empathy and to normalise the fact that we all experience effects of unkind behaviours throughout our lives.

Creating this book was to take my children and its readers on the journey of its main character having his balloon deflated by unkind words and finding a way to fill it back up again.

My daughter’s simple illustrations demonstrate how we might feel sad and alone after someone hurts our feelings, amplified by any invalidation we may experience when wanting to express ourselves.

But the words and images in the story dance along together to remind us that there is always hope.
